European Week against Racism 15th - 21st March

Mr. John Curran T.D., Minister of State with special responsibility for Drugs Strategy and Community Affairs at the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltach Affairs officially launch European Week against Racism in European Union House, 18 Dawson Street, Dublin 2 on Wednesday 10th March 2010.

As part of the European Week against Racism, South Dublin County Council’s Social Inclusion Unit and Sports Office along with the F.A.I. Football in the Community Development Officers will hold a soccer blitz in Clondalkin Sports and Leisure Centre on Tuesday 16th March and Tuesday 23rd March utilising sport as a medium to highlight the anti-racism theme and to promote cultural integration and social inclusion through sport. The event is funded by the Office of the Minister for Integration.

As part of the programme we will be delivering a 90 minute anti racism work shop to all schools involved. The aim of the workshop is to highlight issues around the area of racism in sport and to raise awareness on this important issue. The workshop will be delivered in the schoolto students prior to the tournament by the Football in the Community Development Officer. The workshop will also touch on issues surrounding cultural diversity, and integration.

On March 24th 2010 in Brookfield Youth andCommunity Centre,South Dublin County Council will host "Meet your Neighbour" for the residents of MacUilliam Estate,Tallaght.

We are also holding  a competition to celebrate the culture diversity of people living in Ireland. The competition aims to combat racism and to celebrate culture diversity of people living in Ireland today. The competition is open to Children and Adults.
